Summer Lake School Construction Updates

Superintendent's Update - August 12, 2019

I want to share with you an update I presented at our District Board Meeting this past Wednesday, August 21st regarding the current status of construction of Summer Lake Elementary School. You can see the Google Slide Presentation, as well as other updates, via the following link: www.ouesd.k12.ca.us/sleupdates.

As of today, an official date for the opening of Summer Lake Elementary School cannot be given. There is still no power at Summer Lake Elementary School, which is causing construction delays. I was optimistic that during the summer break construction would have gone very well and afforded us the opportunity to move during the October Break. However, with the number of things that still MUST happen in order for that school to be ready, the October Break Transition is not feasible. I will know more in that coming weeks, and will continue to provide you with construction updates.

As a school district, our number one priority remains the same, and that is to ensure that our students are able to attend a school that is, first and foremost, safe and fully equipped to support their learning. To repeat what I said back in May, there will be only one (1) very first day that the NEW Summer Lake Elementary School and we going to make sure it is a great first day. I realize this is not the news anyone wants to hear and it is not the most ideal situation; however, we are all committed to doing everything that we can to open Summer Lake Elementary School as soon as it is fully equipped and safe for occupancy.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at ghetrick@ouesd.k12.ca.ua or by phone at (925)625-5050. I thank you for your continued support and patience. Working together, we do make a difference. Have a great day.

Respectfully,

Greg Hetrick
Superintendent
Oakley Union Elementary School District
